Global reduction with proper motions for meridian observations
نویسنده
چکیده
When we deal with astrometric observations spread over periods longer than a few years, it is of major importance to take into consideration the proper motions of all objects involved in the reduction process. Not to consider such quantities, mainly when they are poorly known to the majority of the objects, may significantly degrade the final results of the reduction. In this paper, we present a way to treat this problem. As an example, we reduced a set of over 170 000 observations made with the Bordeaux photoelectric automatic meridian circle, collected during almost ten years of work of the instrument. In our reduction model, proper motions were included as unknowns, along with positions and instrumental parameters. The method shown here, which we call global technique, is an extension of the overlap method introduced by Eichhorn (Eichhorn 1960), which was developed by many authors afterwards.

Proper motions of pre-main sequence stars in southern star-forming regions
We present proper motion measurements of premain sequence (PMS) stars associated with major star-forming regions of the southern hemisphere (Chamaeleon, Lupus, Upper Scorpius Ophiuchus, Corona Australis), situated in the galactic longitude range l = 290◦ to l = 360◦. A list of PMS stars as complete as possible was established based on the Herbig and Bell catalogue and many new catalogues like t...
متن کاملComparison of Hipparcos Proper - Motion System to the FK 5
We present an intensive analysis of the FK5 proper-motion system via the two large astrographic catalogs, the PPM and ACRS catalogs, compared with the Hipparcos proper motions. Regional, magnitude, and color-dependent systematic errors in the PPM and ACRS proper motions are found, and exhibit similar tendencies for both catalogs. The term of the global rotation between the FK5 and Hipparcos pro...
متن کاملDetermination of optical positions for 23 extragalactic radio sources
AB S TRACT The optical counterparts of 23 extragalactic radio sources, of which 13 are in the southern hemisphere, have been observed by three telescopes equipped with CCDs. By reference to the Astrographic/Tycho (ACT) Reference, Carlsberg Meridian (CMC), Positions and Proper Motions (PPM), Hipparcos (HIP) and Lick Northern Proper Motion (NPM) catalogues, the positions of the 23 objects have be...
متن کاملVariability of Dayside Convection and Motions of the Cusp/cleft Aurora
We present measurements of the ionospheric plasma flow over the range of invariant latitudes 71-76 ø , observed at 10-second resolution using both the EISCAT radars, with simultaneous observations of the 630 nm cusp/cleft aurora made by a meridian-scanning photometer at Ny ]klesund, Svalbard. A major increase inthe trans-auroral voltage from 5 to 40 kV (associated with sunward convection in the...
متن کاملSub-Milliarcsecond Precision of Pulsar Motions: Using In-Beam Calibrators with the VLBA
We present Very Long Baseline Array phase-referenced measurements of the parallax and proper motion of two pulsars, B0919+06 and B1857–26. Sub-milliarcsecond positional accuracy was obtained by simultaneously observing a weak calibrator source within the 40′ field of view of the VLBA at 1.5 GHz. We discuss the merits of using weak close calibrator sources for VLBI observations at low frequencie...
